Building a sustainable business
At the heart of the Altrad philosophy are the group values, however latterly we have been looking closer as to how we truly bring those values to life by aligning with the wider United Nations Sustainable Development Goals which is a blueprint for addressing some of the global challenges we all face.
Formulated by the UN in 2016, The Sustainable Development Goals are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and improve the lives and prospects of everyone, everywhere. The 17 Goals were adopted by all UN Member States in 2015, as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development which set out a 15-year plan to achieve the Goals and to:
“Achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice.”
At Altrad we fully support this focus, and believe that in line with the group values, that this is a credo that we should all adopt both within our work and home lives.
Across the group we already undertake many activities that support these streams which we will continue to do, however we will now be formalizing our approach and focusing on two key streams over the next 3 years – Quality Education and Climate Action.
The Altrad Group has set up a fund to support and drive initiatives in both streams with projects proposed, owned and delivered by the local business units. Both are very wide-ranging topics and will mean different things to different business units, cultures and countries, but ultimately with the same goal.
The focus will be on both the internal Altrad initiatives and also wider external community and social initiatives, and whilst there may be some commonality in the approach, the key is that the “Direction of Travel” across the group is the same.
